In the context of the Greek Presidency of the European Union, the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 2003 organised a big art exhibition under the title ”© EUROPE EXISTS”.
The exhibition was curated by Rosa Martínez and Harald Szeemann, and included works from 30 artists from each of the 15 member states of the European Union. The announcement for the exhibition stated that its title “refers to the idea of Europe having a cultural and political identity of its own in this era of globalized imperialism”. In it “the ideals of Enlightenment are seen from the new perspectives of postcolonial, class and gender analysis”.
Later on (in the peak of the Greek - Macedonian name dispute), a strange coincidence happened with two samples of the exhibition catalogue. Sharing the same room of the library of Casino Luxembourg – Forum d’art contemporain, they ended up on different shelves - one in the publications issued by Greece and the other in those issued by R. Macedonia.
This work is a documentation of that event.
